Elder Holland on Speaking Kindly

Idea
Elder Holland in this last General Conference gave a very good message on speaking kindly, especially to our families-husbands to wives, wives to husbands, and parents to children. You can read the full message here: http://www.lds.org/conference/sessions/display/0,5239,49-1-690,00.html

Kind Words -- "Yes?"

Idea
Great bit of advice from the Ensign's "Random Sampler" section. It's made a difference in our home. “Yes?” "When your children call to you or seek your attention, instead of responding with an exasperated “What?” try saying “Yes?” Somehow this slight change is naturally more upbeat. And when you do have to say no, children can accept it more easily when they’ve been answered all day with yes." Sue M. Carter, “‘Yes?’,” Ensign, Mar. 2007, 72

Time for your marriage

Idea
While reading through Supernanny (by Jo Frost) she points out, as many others do, that parenting can drain on a couples marriage. I think that's why I've heard latter-day prophets advise that couples set aside a regular date night.

Establish a Game Night

Idea
Set aside a night for playing board or card games with your children. Even with very young children, simple games like "Button, button, who has the button?" is enough.
